"Expected" is the house edge for these rules times the amount bet. A result above it is the short-run spread; the average keeps going down.
Basic strategy for this table
The cell for your current decision is outlined while you play.
Why one deck helps you
With one deck, each card dealt changes the odds of the next one more than with six, and the house edge is lower when the other rules are the same.
| Rules (dealer hits soft 17) | House edge |
|---|---|
| 1 deck, double after split | 0.04% |
| 1 deck, no double after split | 0.18% |
| 1 deck, no double after split, blackjack pays 6:5 | 1.57% |
| 6 decks, double after split | 0.62% |
With one deck, dealer standing on soft 17 and double after split, the exact calculation gives the player a small edge (0.15%). Tables like that are rare; if you find one, check the rules again; any single session can still lose.
How the chart changes
These cells differ from the six-deck chart with the same rules (dealer hits soft 17, no double after split):
| Hand | Here | With 6 decks |
|---|---|---|
| Hard 8 against 5 | double | hit |
| Hard 8 against 6 | double | hit |
| Hard 9 against 2 | double | hit |
| Soft A,2 against 4 | double | hit |
| Soft A,3 against 4 | double | hit |
| Soft A,6 against 2 | double | hit |
| Soft A,7 against 2 | stand | double |
| Pair 2,2 against 3 | split | hit |
| Pair 4,4 against 5 | double | hit |
| Pair 4,4 against 6 | double | hit |
| Pair 6,6 against 2 | split | hit |
| Pair 7,7 against 10 | stand | hit |
